WHAT TO WEAR GUIDE
Should's and Should Not's
You Should!
Coordinate and Anchor.
What does that even mean? It means, choose a favorite color, then anchor all the other outfits to that color. I always suggest neutrals, jewel or earth tones. You can't go wrong with maroon, navy, mustard, rust, beige (not white), dark green, plum, black or brown. These colors mix well together, but stick to 3 or 4 colors at most.
Make sure your shirt, doesn't match your skin tone. Create a break with a darker or lighter color by a few shades.
If you need a little extra help, here is a fantastic website you can use to find amazing color palettes. Once you choose your base color, you can use this site to help you coordinate and accent with other colors. https://coolors.co/
The only colors I suggest not wearing to a session are bright red, bright white, and florescents. They all cast a color onto the face and can take over the overall image.
You Should Not.
Wear shirts with large logos, writing, or images on them. They are very distracting to the overall image and do exactly as they are intended by drawing your eye to the advertisement.
You should avoid being matchy matchy. All one color doesn't actually look as great as it sounds. If you need help coordinating a color, give me a call. We'll talk it over!
Avoid mixing too many patterns. Stripes with larger stripes works. Stripes with polka dots with paisley....doesn't. It takes over the image.
You Should!
Accessorize! What is an accessory? A great necklace, bracelet, statement ring, cute earrings, an amazing hat, bowties, belts, scarves, dress watches, and cufflinks. It's all fun and adds a lot to the overall images. This is a dress-up event! Dress up!
You should be... confident and comfortable in WHATEVER you wear. If you're uncomfortable, it will translate to your images. If you're confident and comfortable, you'll be thinking about your family and not what you're wearing, and that too will translate.
You Should Not.
Wear sunglasses or transition lenses. The eyes should be visible! If you wear transition lenses, consider removing your glasses for the photos or wearing contacts for the day.
You should remove silicone bracelets, earbuds (you wouldn't believe how many teenagers leave them in) and apple watches. Consider a dress watch instead or real bracelets, beaded bracelets, things that coordinate with your style. Bring a bag for personal items you may forget to take off, or don't want to hold and secure phones or bulky items in them not in your pockets.
Spit out yer' gum. You can see it in photos when you smile!
You Should, and Should Not.
You should look and feel great whatever you choose to wear. Wearing things that are uncomfortable that you have to tug at, or pull on, will distract you the whole way through. So feel comfortable!
You should not do anything drastic to your hair before photos. If you've always had purple hair, that's fantastic, rock it! However, making drastic changes days or weeks before your session to your color or length may be disastrous if you hate it. See above where I note "feel great". If you hate your hair, you'll hate those photos. Forever.
